Review: Witches Abroad

Witches Abroad (Discworld #12) by Terry Pratchett

Published November 12th 1992 by Corgi Adult
Paperback, 286 pages

"It seemed an easy job... After all, how difficult could it be to make sure that a servant girl doesn't marry a prince? But for the witches Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat Garlick, travelling to the distant city of Genua, things are never that simple...
Servant girls have to marry the prince. That's what life is all about. You can't fight Happy Ending.
At least - up until now."

Well what can I say? Terry Pratchett is Brilliant. The book consists of a bunch of stories all bunched into one, red riding hood, sleeping beauty etc. But Cinderella is the main premises.

This book kept me constantly laughing and always had interesting twists and turns!

The 3 witches complain, are mean and funny but they sure know how to have fun! And not to mention Pratchett's brilliant way of describing things.

The best parts of the book is definitely when Nanny Ogg is writing to her son.

There is also a over-sexed tom cat Greebo that is one hell of a character!

*Spoilers*

It cracked me up when the farmhouse fell on Nanny Ogg's head!

"Nanny Ogg knew how to start spelling 'banana', but didn't know how you stopped."

"Your average witch is not, by nature, a social animal as far as other witches are concerned. There's a conflict of dominant personalities. There's a group of ringleaders without a ring. There's the basic unwritten rule of witchcraft, which is 'Don't do what you will, do what I say.' The natural size of a coven is one. Witches only get together when they can't avoid it."

Review: Undead and Unwed

Undead and Unwed (Undead #1) by MaryJanice Davidson

Published: February 2nd 2006 by Piatkus Books
Paperback, 288 pages

Goodreads Summary

"First Betsy Taylor loses her job, then she's killed in a car accident. But what really bites is that she can't seem to stay dead. And now her new friends have the ridiculous idea that Betsy is the prophesied vampire queen, and they want her help in overthrowing the most obnoxious power-hungry vampire in five centuries.

My Take (very mild spoilers):

This was a very funny and light read! Imagine Betsy:

becoming a vampire, being dragged into vampire politics by Eric Sinclair:

(couldn't resist putting this pic up)

to defeat a vampire likes this (Nostrodamus)

 (But with a cape)

Throw in humour, shoes, a financial backer and a new gay friend.

The only complaint I have is that Betsy is very bitchy (all fine) but hell she needs to take a breather sometimes and shut up lol.

Definitely something to read if you are in a reading rut and looking for something fun. I will be reading the next ones!

*Spoilers* (Drag over to highlight)

Betsy is a foretold Vampire Queen. She doesn't care about vampire politics but with enough persuasion Eric gets her to believe him and they set out to overthrow Nostro.

Favourite Quote:

The whole books is quotable! But I like the first line: “The day I died started out bad and got worse in a hurry.”
