"If you’re not enjoying a book, will you stop mid-way? Or do you push through to the end? What makes you decide to stop?"
I don't stop reading a book. I push through. Although there was Cry the Beloved Country which i hated, i would have given up, but i had to read it for English class (so i sort of read it :P). So except for that one book, i don't give up on a book, I am the eternal optimist!

Unlike you, I do abandon books that are boring. Life is to short to read a boring book, when there are so many good books waiting to be read.
Frankly, I think why should I waste time reading something I don't like when there are so many more to choose from..
Here is my BTT: Giving Up post!
Yes, back when I was in school, I used to read everything assigned, no matter how boring and nasty. But now that I can please myself, that's just what I do.
Cry the Beloved Country is one of those books I started but abandoned after the first few pages. I think you were very brave for "sort of" reading it!
I try to only pick books I know I will enjoy - there's too many books out there just waiting to be read.
Here's my BTT post.
I will also stop reading a book. And, I have spoken our town librarians about it b/c I would regularly check out ten books and return them a couple of days later. They said it is perfectly normal to think you might like a book but realize tat you don't and stop. If it doesn't get me somewhere I won't continue. Now, if I BUY a book guilt will have its way with me and I will TRY to push to the end. But my husband is a guy who appreciates things that make me wish I were dead so I can often palm them onto him!Fangs, Wands and Fairy Dust

I'm very picky with books, so I usually like what I read. But occassionally, I hate what I pick up and I skim :) I skim, re-skim and I just read the parts I want really :)
I used to push through, but in my older age (I'm 30 next week!) I will give up on a book if I don't like it.
Hi, I just found you through Booking Through Thursday and I like this question better than this week's so I am commenting here even though it's an old post! Sorry!
But anyways I liked your answer to this question because the majority of answers seem to be the opposite. It's hard to push through a book you don't really like and takes perseverance so I say good for you!
