Review: Touch of Power

Touch of Power (Healer #1) by Maria V. Snyder

Expected publication: December 20th 2011 by Mira
E-Book, 394 pages
Source: Netgalley

"Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan assumes their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Territories, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life....

8/10

This is the first novel by Maria V. Snyder that I have read, and let me tell you, it won't be the last!

One of my favourite things about this novel was the Peace and Death Lilies! They are these huge flowers that look the same, but if you come close to a Death Lily it will "eat" you. I found the story surrounding them fascinating!

The world that was created is amazing and truly epic. And the characters that fill this world will climb right into your heart and stay there. There is also some romance thrown in, but on a small scale and it only adds to the tale.

This novel has a strong heroine called Avry and a truly evil Villain that will intrigue you so much that you are not sure if you actually like him or hate him! The story flows and keeps you engaged.

So if you like Fantasy with magic, monsters and tons of adventure then you have found the book for you!

My one gripe about this novel was the travel. A lot of things happen on the journey through this world, but the forever walking makes me anxious.

I look forward to reading the next one in the series.

I want to thank NetGalley and Harlequin for the copy.

For those who have read it (SPOILERS):

How cool was the Peace Lilly part at the end? I loved it!

I read Maria Snyder's Study series and loved it. It seems like all the things I enjoyed about it are in this one too. She's so adept at crafting beautiful worlds and strong heroines. Can't wait for this novel. Thanks for the review!

No, seriously, Maria V. Snyder is one of my fave authors. She can be a bit hit-and-miss though, so I'm SO excited by all the amazing reviews Touch Of Power has been garnering.

If you're going to read another MVS TOTALLY read Poison Study. It's one of my favourite books. AMAZING. Magic Study is also awesome, I just wasn't so sold on the final book in the series :/

Thanks for a fab review!
