Weekly Question

This is a Arb question, but do you prefer a male narrator or a female narrator when you listen to Audio Books??

I'm not sure. I have only listened to male narrators.
And you?

I've listened to both, and I don't have a gender preference - rather, it depends on the quality of the reading, recording, and voice acting.

The only reading I found too annoying to listen to was a collection of Japanese Fairytales read by someone with a strong typical American accent - loud nasal twang. Argh!

I've listened to American university lecturers with the same accent - luckily they were interesting to keep me listening, but that accent isn't very easy on the ear.

I'm not a big fan of audio books, but I'd go with a male narrator--preferably with a British accent, like in old movies. (LOL!) The few times I've heard a female narrator, I got distracted by wondering how I would read the story, and whether I'd do a better job or not, and really couldn't focus.

I don't have a gender preference, but in women I don't like a really high pitched voice. I tend to focus more on the quality of the acting. Lately I've noticed that the quality of the recording is something I pay more attention to. I notice more where the recording/editing breaks are.

Interesting question! I suppose it really depends on the book and the voice actor. For me, the good/bad factor really comes in when the voice actor does a voice for their opposite gender. Most men who've narrated stories I've listened don't do women very well. Just sort of ambigu-high pitched and similar sounding.
