Review: Soulless

Soulless by Gail Carriger

Goodreads Summary

"Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she's a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette.

Where to go from there? From bad to worse apparently, for Alexia accidentally kills the vampire -- and then the appalling Lord Maccon (loud, messy, gorgeous, and werewolf) is sent by Queen Victoria to investigate.

With unexpected vampires appearing and expected vampires disappearing, everyone seems to believe Alexia responsible. Can she figure out what is actually happening to London's high society? Will her soulless ability to negate supernatural powers prove useful or just plain embarrassing? Finally, who is the real enemy, and do they have treacle tart?

My Take with very mild spoilers:

I really enjoyed this book! It took me a bit to really get into it, but once I was in I couldn't stop! Gail Carriger has a way with words and she definitely knows how to please her readers. Alexia is truly a great character and the secondary characters are so much fun! Her best friend Ivy and Lord Akeldama are really genius.

It was funny and original! And I am now a werewolf convert :)

Mystery, Romance, Humour, Action, Vampires, Werewolves, Silly Hats and great characters!

I will most definitely be buying the next one soon!

Favourite Quote:

"You are about as covert as a sledgehammer."

"My dearest girl,' said the vampire finally, examining Lord Maccon with an exhausted but appreciative eye, 'such a banquet. Never been one to favor werewolves myself, but he is very well equipped, now, is he not?'
Miss Tarabotti gave him an arch look. 'My goodies,' she warned.
Humans,' chuckled the vampire, 'so possessive."

A Victorian Steampunk theme is something run in my blood; I would totally be reading this one.
