It has only happened to one series for me. I stopped on book 2 (loved book 1) and I'm still debating reading number 3. I doubt i will anytime soon though. So for now i have abandoned this series.

I love series as well, especially collecting them, but I must say that the last book in Vampire Diaries really did nothing for me...
Sometimes in a series some of the books arent as great as others, take BDB for instance, some were just amazing and other just blah

For me, it's the Kage Baker company books. I'm dying to find out the big BIG revelation but I'm so over the entire series, I suppose I will just have to die ignorant!
