Acheron (Dark-Hunter, #16) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Paperback, 816 pages

For the first 400 or 500 pages of this book I felt like the author had started writing a prologue to the book and obsessively couldn’t stop! Having said that for the first 200 of those 500 pages I really loved the book. It was well written and evocative and to be honest having read one other of the Night hunter series and hated it, I was starting to think that maybe Sherrilyn Kenyon was actually worth my time.

But then it just became too much. The 300 extra pages of abuse and torture were just that, abuse and torture and could easily been edited out without having any effect on the story. After having waded through the worlds longest prologue we eventually get Kenyons present day romance which could have been written by another author! (Sadly the same one who wrote the other night hunter book I hated so much.)

It was just eye rollingly cheesy. The dialogue was lame and the romance embarrassing! I have been told by many a Kenyon fan that this is the best book in the series and it would change my mind and I would be hooked. Unfortunately all it has done is make me sad for that small glimmer of potential I saw in the first 200 pages. I would have given that author 5 stars. Where did she go????

2/5 Stars
